<p>Proceeds  from this benefit will go toward The  Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the  Middle East, which</p>
<ul>
<li>Promotes and develops conflict resolution and reconciliation in the  Middle East</li>
<li>Provides food for over 4,000 people monthly</li>
<li>Runs a dental and  medical clinic for all those who  need care, regardless of background  and faith</li>
</ul>
<p>No matter how you feel about what’s going on in the  Middle East right now, we can all agree there are people there that could use some help and  support.<br />

<p>Please show your support for Studio 34 yoga teacher Brittany Policastro as she teaches her last class before she sets off on a four-month journey to Brazil, Tanzania and India.  As she travels, she will participate in humanitarian work in conjunction with Cross Cultural Solutions, dive into the dance culture and document her experiences for a book called &#8220;The Humanitarian Dance Experience.&#8221; She has been raising funds to take this trip for eight  months and has a bit more to go.</p>

<p>ALL Donations will be going to Yoga with a Purpose to benefit the African Village Survival Initiative.</p>
<p><em>The AVSI is building economic self-determination programs to create a collective solution now, as unemployment in the African community reaches 50%. Programs include outfitting a licensed community kitchen as a resource for independent African food businesses. AVSI is also setting up a state of the art recording studio to give African artists, from throughout the world, a means to produce their own music, to use their talents and create their own self-sustaining employment.</em></p>

<p><strong>About the Hospital:</strong><br />
Mbagathi hospital is 167-bed facility and the only district public hospital in Nairobi Province. The hospital is located on the edge of the Kibera slum, the largest slum in Kenya, and serves an annual average of 73,783 patients. Mbagathi district hospital runs the most important diagnostic center for tuberculosis in Nairobi and operates an HIV/AIDS clinic.</p>

<p><strong>Equipment Needed:</strong><br />
This equipment is basic by Western standards with such items often found in each patient room. At the Mbagathi District Hospital, these items are scarce or non-existent.</p>
<ul>
<li>pulse oximeter &#8211; $50/each: used to monitor patient oxygen levels and for diagnosis of life-threatening                                          AIDS-related infections</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li> EKG machine &#8211; $2000: used for the diagnosis of common emergent conditions, such as heart attacks.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li> blood pressure monitor &#8211; $35/each</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li> internet access &#8211; $300/year: needed for communication and teleconferencing with medical experts from around the world.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li> centrifuge &#8211; $450 &#8211; needed for preparation of blood and cerebral spinal fluid samples to allow health care providers to evaluate specimens on site and expedite diagnoses.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>The Evening Line-up!</strong></p>
<p><strong>7:30pm:</strong> Soulful vocals of Fatima Adamu</p>
<p>Fatima is the quintessential example of a modern-day Renaissance woman. In addition to holding a degree in Geography and Urban Studies from Temple, Fatima is a poet, model, actress, singer, fashion designer, dancer and painter.</p>
<p><strong>8:30pm: </strong>African Dance performance with Anssumane Silla&#8217;, Nikki Brake-Silla&#8217; and ensemble with live drummining. Followed by a African Dance lesson!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=126404273652">Anssumane</a> began his dancing career at the tender age of 11. He has since danced professionally for over 18 years with the National Ballet of Guinea Bissau. He career has lead him to perform for Dignitaries, Ambassadors and Presidents from around the world. Anssumane has performed in Mali, Senegal, The Gambia, South Africa and Libya and has garnered numerous awards for excellence in dance performance and teaching. He teaches traditional and contemporary dance styles (Bijagos, Balanta, Fula, and Manjaco) from Guinea Bissau.</p>

<p>Friends of <a href="http://adhk.org/">ArcheDream for HUMANKIND</a> is hosting its sixth annual performance and silent auction. Held in honor of Studio 34&#8242;s very own <a href="http://www.studio34yoga.com/about#stephen">Stephen Fisher</a>, the event will raise money for ADHK&#8217;s community programs, including working with homeless men and presenting workshops for children who need alternative ways to express their issues. Unique and innovative, these programs educate through entertainment while using music, dance, theater, and visual arts to inspire and improve. Bring sketchbooks, yarn and other (non-paint) supplies, and work on projects while musicians play at our open mic. Additional features: supply swap and a variety of workshops including Upcycled Pamphlet Journal and Basic and Advanced Knitting.</p>
<p>Event is open to artists of all ages and skill levels and the first 50 receive a free homemade cookie.</p>
<p><strong>$5 admission</strong>. 20% of the proceeds from this event will support the Philadelphia Arts in Education Partnership.</p>
