Bang! Zoom! Pow! A Story of Broken Borders

When forced to comply in a toxic environment, well-being suffers. An identity-questioning experience, life becomes a fight to prove your goodness. In this contemporary jazz dance event, you will be exposed to women in a negative web each trying to gain control of the situation and themselves.

Emerging Philly based choreographer, Tiffany Brooke Dow, presents 4 contemporary jazz dance pieces regarding toxic/negative environments and how we survive them. Catch this short evening of dance, presented through super-hero, comic book-like jazz movement. A brief, casual talk back with the artist follows the show, for those interested.

Collage and creative writing are both gateways connecting your spirit to its Source of creative energy and inspiration. This is the season of harvest. We will create original collages and creative writing inspired by our images to create joy and honor what we want to harvest and bring into our lives. Paper, glue sticks, scissors and images will be provided: bring extra old magazines, calendars, catalogs that you are willing to cut up. Unused materials will be available for trade to others or will be recycled after the event. No talent required: just a spirit of adventure.

We exorcise the esoteric humors of sharing, exploring, and storytelling amongst some Philly denizens who are making things happen in and around our fair city.

What’s Pecha Kucha (say peh-CHAK-cha)? It’s the Japanese word for “chit-chat.” It’s also a kind of rapidfire creative show-and-tell governed by a simple rule: show 20 slides, talk about each one for 20 seconds. Wired magazine called it: “Say what you need to say in six minutes and 40 seconds of exquisitely matched words and images and then sit the hell down.” We call it an evening of fun, sociability, and a little learning thrown in.

$5 suggested donation.

Music Together® is an internationally recognized early childhood music program for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, kindergardeners, and the adults who love them. First offered to the public in 1987, it pioneered the concept of a research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum that strongly emphasizes and facilitates adult involvement.

Music Together classes are based on the recognition that all children are musical. All children can learn to sing in tune, keep a beat, and participate in the music of our culture, provided that their early environment supports such learning.

• Ten weekly 45-minute classes
• A beautifully illustrated songbook with activity suggestions for parents.

• A Parent Guide DVD for new families called: “Music Together at Home: Helping Your Child Grow Musically.”

Eating water ice and enduring heat waves; watching fireworks on a rooftop and waking up to the sound of gunshots; splashing in Logan Square Fountain and riding past closed public pools… What does Philly in the summer mean to you? Join your fellow Philadelphians as we explore this topic through the language of theater in a short workshop. We will play games, act out situations, and explore human sculpture techniques from Sociodrama and the Theater of the Oppressed. No previous theater experience is necessary.
