workshop | Shoulder Liberation with Morgan and Jason (7/4)

Sunday 7/4, 10AM-Noon, $10

The shoulders are often a place where we carry our burdens and feel a lot of tightness. Many 21st century activities, such as typing and driving, can increase this shoulder tension, and Forrest Yoga highlights techniques that bring relief to the shoulders. This special double-teacher Independence Day workshop will focus on loosening the shoulders and our burdens through a series of fun poses, partner exercises and ample hands-on assistance.

class series | Contact Improvisation (Sundays starting 8/15)

Contact Improvisation – Sundays beginning August 15th; 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Contact Improvisation is a partner dance form using physical contact, weight sharing and human connection as the impetus for the dance. The point of contact is used as a fulcrum for unusual movement not physically possible in a solo dance. Using gravity and momentum the dance unfolds in unexpected ways. As an improvisational form, there is an emphasis on being present and open to the unknown. All levels of movement experience and ability are welcome to practice CI. There is no judgment about what is beautiful or ugly. It is a deeply personal and experiential dance. The quality of the dance is gauged by how the dancers themselves experience it. There are specific techniques and forms that one can learn and practice in order to make the dance safer and more enjoyable, but these techniques are not an end; There are a means towards a unique, unrepeatable dance.

All levels welcome! $10 per class.

workshop | Dragon Spirit Yoga™

Saturday, July 10, 1 – 3:45 p.m.

Join the renewal as we welcome spring through a celebration of body, mind & spirit. This workshop will focus on performing a combine series of still postures, moving meditations and breathing techniques, placing importance on the synchronization of mind, body and spirit through Taoist Yoga; a combination Chi Kung & Kung Fu exercises. The roots of this practice lend itself to the traditions of Taoist legends associating particular Chinese myths with animal spirits (Dragon, Tiger, Monkey etc.), mystics (Monk, Warrior, Goddess, etc.) in relation to the Five Elements found in nature (Water, Metal, Fire, Wood & Water) with principals of creating balance (Yin/Yang).

Gabrielle Casella (a.k.a. PlumDragoness) developed “the way of the dragon spirit“(Tao Lung Shen) yoga by drawing inspiration from astrological & spiritual connections to the mythic legends of dragon spirit, Taoist mystical philosophies, Chinese martial/internal arts systems, Hatha yoga practices & the teachings of Chik Qadir Mason, Paulie Zink & Sarah Powers. This original system of yoga reflects her individualized aesthetic as a multi-disciplinary performance artist & healing arts practitioner.

Ana Forrest

Ana Forrest

  • Unraveling the Mysteries of Hips, Neck and Shoulders

    Tuesday, February 16, 6-9 p.m.

All levels (must have some yoga experience)

In this Forrest Yoga workshop you learn to create freedom and strength in hip, neck, & shoulders. You will learn to safely unlock these habitual tension spots through intensely focused breathwork and asana (including inversions, standing poses, and vinyasa). Strengthen and lengthen the muscles around these joints, and create space in these areas. This work helps you walk through your life with grace and freedom.

  • Changing Your Relationship To Fear

    Wednesday, February 17, 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Intermediate / Advanced (must be able to do wheel)

How does fear affect you? Interested in learning how to change your relationship to fear? Fear is a powerful emotion that dictates our decisions and hinders us from making good choices. Fear can lead to anxiety, overwhelm, despair and depression. Forrest Yoga teaches you a different way to relate and work with fear. It teaches you to use fear as a warning call, to listen, be alert and proceed cautiously. Fear does not have to be something that paralyzes you. In this workshop you’ll use breath and asana to access, comfort and support the parts of your body that are constricted by fear. This new approach to our fearful places brings about change immediately. Your body responds and relief can be felt immediately. You learn to move breath into these areas, stay steady, and remain present as difficult emotions surface, shift, and transform. The bands that constrict your life force and contort your body begin to loosen. You will have room to breathe! When you treat your fearful parts with attention and compassion, you allow the ‘wonderful’ back into your life.
